WHO IS MATIAS BREUER?

Hi Matias! What have you made and what are you interested in exploring with your work?

In my freelance work, I have edited projects for clients such as National Geographic, Instagram, Rolex, Vick's, Revlon, College Humor, as well as various social media creators.

I have spent the last three years creating book trailers and promotional materials to help authors and publishers market their books effectively. The videos I have created have garnered hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and Instagram, and have helped drive book sales.

I have written and directed several music videos and short films, including my upcoming arthouse horror short, The Cave. My thriller short STINK had its world premiere at Frameline 48, the world's biggest queer film festival. The feature film I wrote and directed, Here On Out, earned the Audience Choice award at FirstGlance Film Fest LA and was distributed by Gravitas Ventures. It is now available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, Paramount+, and more.

I love the horror genre and think it’s a fun and visceral lens through which to investigate universal fears and primal needs. Through my narrative work, I aim to tell specific and intimate queer stories about people craving connection, struggling with their identities and expressing their masculinity.

Ok! Where are you from again?

I am half Paraguayan, half Lebanese, and was born in Asuncion, Paraguay. I lived in 5 different countries before graduating high school (Paraguay, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Peru and the US).

I received my BA in film from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, then moved to Greensboro, NC and Washington, DC before relocating to Los Angeles where I am currently based.

The question on everybody’s lips: What are your hobbies?

Great question! I spend my free time watching movies, exploring the outdoors, painting, writing, and going on runs. I got scuba-certified fairly recently, and have loved exploring that new skill in dive sites around California. This year I hope to train for a half marathon and take up some fun activity like rock-climbing or even dare I say surfing.
